Full & partial rewires

Plan the electrics around the finished property — not the old layout.

Carefully planned rewiring for older homes, renovations, extensions and defined areas that need electrical renewal.

Choose the right scope

Full rewire or partial rewire?

Full

Renew the electrical installation throughout the property.

Appropriate where the wiring is unsuitable, the property is being comprehensively renovated or the planned layout requires widespread changes.

  • New circuits and wiring
  • Planned socket and lighting positions
  • Consumer unit and protection as required
  • Inspection, testing and certification
Partial

Focus on a defined area or selected circuits.

Suitable where part of the installation can remain and the proposed changes can be safely integrated with it.

  • Kitchen or extension wiring
  • Selected circuit replacement
  • Room renovation electrical work
  • Testing of affected work

Electrical installation work during a property project

Prepare for disruption

Rewiring affects access, power and decoration.

The exact impact depends on the property, whether it is occupied and how much of the installation is being replaced. Discuss furniture, floor access, working hours, other trades and making good before the programme is agreed.

Common questions

Rewiring FAQs.

What is the difference between a full and partial rewire?

A full rewire replaces the electrical wiring throughout the property. A partial rewire focuses on a defined area or circuit where the remaining installation is suitable to stay in service.

Can a property remain occupied during a rewire?

It depends on the scale and layout of the work. Rewiring is disruptive, so access, power availability, furniture and decoration should be discussed during planning.

When should electrical planning happen during a renovation?

As early as possible. Agreeing socket, lighting, appliance and data positions before plastering and final finishes reduces changes and disruption later.

Will the new installation be tested?

Yes. New and altered electrical work is inspected, tested and certified as appropriate when completed.
